CEREMONY

What days can you get married at Harpenden Manor?

We are in the application stages for a ceremony licence, please contact us so we can inform you when the licence has been approved.

Are there different prices for different times of the year?

No, prices remain the same all year round.

Is the wedding service included in the package?

No, the service is not included in the price. We recommend that you contact Hertfordshire County Council with regards to your requirements.

Does the price of the packages include vat?

Yes, package prices include VAT.

Is there a minimum headcount or charge per person?

Yes, the minimum headcount is 50 guests.

Do we have to pay any extra for the Civil Wedding Ceremony?

No, the cost of using the Library or Great Drawing-room are including in the exclusive hire fee of Rothamsted Manor, but there will be a fee to pay directly to the registrar in order for them to conduct the ceremony for you.

Do we have to book the registrar separately?

Yes, it is a legal requirement that you contact the Registrar separately and ensure they are available to conduct a Civil Wedding Ceremony on the date you have chosen and it is best to do this before you confirm your date with Rothamsted Manor.

How long does a Civil Ceremony take?

A Civil Ceremony normally takes around 25 minutes, a little longer if you include readings or music.

What does a Humanist Ceremony involve?

A Humanist Ceremony is a celebration rather than a legal ceremony and can be carried out anywhere within the Manor or the grounds. If you have a humanist ceremony you will also need to arrange to be legally married with the local Registrar.

 

LOGISTICS

What is the maximum number of guests we can have for the Wedding Breakfast?

We can fit 76 guests in the Great Drawing-room and 40 guests in the Library for a sit down meal or a marquee in the grounds could accommodate up to 350 guests.

Is there a minimum headcount or charge per person?

Yes, the minimum headcount is 50 guests.

Is there a cloakroom and if so is that included in the price?

Yes, as part of the exclusive hire of the venue, you will have access to a cloakroom.

What time can we arrive at Rothamsted Manor on our Wedding Day?

Exclusive hire of Rothamsted Manor starts at 10am.

How much parking is there and how close to the Manor House is it?

The Manor car park is located adjacent to the Manor House. The car park can cater for up to 50 cars.

Can we drop anything off the day before our event?

Yes, you can drop table plans, name cards, favours etc. the day before your event, this must be confirmed with the Rothamsted Manor team to ensure availability.

Do you allow children at Rothamsted Manor and what is the charge?

Yes, we welcome children to Rothamsted Manor but ask that they are supervised at all times. Charges for children aged 2-12 years are £17.50 and we can provide highchairs if numbers are confirmed in advance.

Will I need a microphone for the speeches? If so, do I have to provide my own?

A microphone is not needed for speeches in the Great Drawing-room or Library.

Can you provide an easel to hold our table plan?

Yes, we provide an easel, which can hold your table plan.

What time do we have to finish the party?

In order to conform with our Premises Licence and out of consideration for local residents, all wedding parties must finish by 1am Friday and Saturday, and 12:30 am Sunday to Thursday.

Do we have to use a marquee for the evening reception?

A dance marquee would be required for your evening reception if your guest numbers exceed 120 and/or if you have a band consisting of 5 band members or more.

Can we decorate the marquee?

Please see the recommend marquee suppliers on our website who you can contact to discuss your marquee requirements.

Can we have a long top table?

Yes – you can have a long top table in either the Great Drawing-room or the Library.

When do I have to confirm final numbers?

We need an idea of your final numbers 6 weeks prior to your wedding date and actual final numbers need to be confirmed at least 5 working days before your wedding.

Can you recommend any local suppliers (florist, photographer etc.)?

You can find a list of our recommended suppliers on our website.

Can my photographer come to the Manor before the wedding to look round?

Yes, but they will need to arrange to make an appointment before hand.

Do you recommend having a break between the day and the evening?

We strongly recommend that your daytime reception rolls into your evening party without a break. In our experience, a lull in the day can impact on the success of a wedding.

Is the Rothamsted Manor lit from the outside at nighttime?

Yes, the front of the manor is lit by floodlighting at night with lighting on the driveway.

Do I have to lay the name cards etc. out on the morning of our event or can you do that for us?

We can lay the table with your name places, favours, menus etc. as long as they are given to us in table order. We will lay these out for you on the morning of your wedding.

Can we have fireworks or Chinese lanterns?

Unfortunately fireworks and Chinese lanterns are not permitted anywhere on the manor grounds.

 

CATERING AND WINE

Can we bring our own caterers in?

We offer in-house catering. There is also a list of approved caterers who are familiar with Rothamsted Manor’s catering set up available on the website.

Can we have a menu tasting session with the caterers?

If you use our in-house caterers, we will liaise with you to attend a menu tasting session.

Do you cater for special dietary requirements?

Yes, as long as we know in advance then we can cater for most dietary needs.

What age do you classify as a child?

Anyone aged 12 and under is classified as a child.

Is a bar available for alcoholic drinks?

Yes, a bar is available for alcoholic drinks and we can provide a bartender(s) to serve drinks from the bar.

Can we bring our own wine in?

Yes we offer a corkage service, which is charged at £10 for wine and £15 for champagne.

Can we taste the wine before we select it?

Yes, you can purchase any of the wines from the wine list to taste before choosing which we recommend you do with your food tasting. The cost of this will be added to your final bill.

 

ACCOMMODATION

Do you offer accommodation or a bridal suite?

Unfortunately, Rothamsted Manor is unable to provide accommodation services or a bridal suit. Please see the website for a list of suitable accommodations close by.

 

DECORATIONS & ACCESSORIES

Can we have candles around the Manor?

No naked flames are permitted inside Rothamsted Manor.

Can we have confetti or rose petals?

We don’t allow the throwing of confetti or rose petals in the Manor or grounds.

Can we have helium balloons?

Yes, we allow helium balloons inside the Manor, but not outside the Manor or in the grounds.

 

BOOKING PROCESS

When can we come and have a look round the Manor?

We would be delighted to show you around Rothamsted Manor and its grounds to bring to life what we can offer you for your special day. Please contact us to book an appointment.

How long can you provisionally hold a date for us?

Once you’ve been for a show-round, we can provisionally hold a date for you for 1 month. If we haven’t had any other interest in that date by the end of the month we can extend the provisional booking for you, but if we do have other interest in the date then we will ask you whether you would like to book or release the date within 5 days.

What deposit do I have to pay when I confirm a date?

Once you have booked a date, we will send out a contract and a deposit invoice for £2,000 for events inside the Manor and £5,000 for events requiring a marquee. The balance of payment (to include all catering and a drinks deposit) will be invoiced one month before your wedding day.

Will I have one contact at Rothamsted Manor when planning my wedding or will I deal with a number of different people?

You will have one contact that will work with you right up to your big day. They will invite you to come for a meeting approximately 10-12 weeks before your wedding day to discuss the logistics of your day.
